Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair
Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repairs are an option for patients that is widely used. As an alternative to open hernia repair, laparoscopic ventral hernia repair allows the use of smaller cuts, which enables a short hospital stay or even outpatient surgery and helps to reduce pain after surgery.
These surgeries can be performed with at little as 2 incisions, 1 cm in size. Most hernias can be treated on an outpatient basis, unless the hernia is very large. This is a good reason to not delay your surgery as a hernia will not fix itself. Over a long enough time, hernias will worsen or get bigger.
When a ventral hernia causes few problems, it allows you more options, in terms of fixing it. Laparoscopic surgery is the preference. However, if it worsens or causes a blockage, laparoscopic surgery may not be an option. While you may feel fine, please see a surgeon as soon as possible if it causes any discomfort, pain, soreness or irritation.
